OPEN THEIR ACCOUNTS.
- Two divisions of the Fourth Division
Handicap were well contested. In the
first a 20 to 1 chance in the .Highfield
gelding,' Infield, was somewhat lucky to
beat the , favorite, Yampi, by a head.
Yampi was badly placed early. The
winner is a three-year-old, owned and
trained by J. J. Kahl, and in this race
'he torieitea nis maiden certihcate.
So did Meal, who comfortably ac
counted for the opposition in the second
section of the race. Meal is a three
year-old Buckwheat filly out of Step
Aside, and possesses more than average
speed. She started a well-backed second
favorite at 5 to 2, and won from an
outsider in Polama and Moline Knight.
The winner cost Thompson Bros. 210gs
as a yearling. She is now raced by
Mr. Norman Willis, a former Sydney
sporting writer.
